Nuts & Washers

ASTM A194 Grade 2H heavy hex nuts are intended for use in flange bolting applications, as well as structural applications and with other high strength bolting. ASTM A194 covers carbon steel, alloy steel, and stainless steel nuts for bolts in high pressure or high temperature service.

Nuts

The material has carbon, manganese, phosphorus, sulfur and silicon in the composition. There are different types of these fasteners such as the ASTM A194 grade 2h washer and nuts in this specification which are produced by hot forging, cold forging or machining. The heat treated bar stock of the a194 2h material is used to produce these nuts with the specific hardness, heat treatment and chemical composition. The nuts can range from ¼ inches to 2” in nominal size with the number of threads per inches ranging from 8 to 20.

The hardness of the ASTM A194 Grade 2H Hex Nuts and others range from 212 to 327BHN depending on the nut size. The quenched and tempered heat treatment is applied at 455 degrees Celsius. There are different types such as the grade 2h coupling nuts which are used to couple two components together. The tensile strength of the nuts varies from 150ksi to 175ksi.

Washers

A washer is a thin plate with a circular hole in the center. Washers are used to distribute the load of a threaded fastener, such as a bolt or nut.

Before a screw or bolt is driven into a surface, a washer may be placed in order to prevent looseness and provide protection. This also prevents the bolt head and nut from damaging the surfaces of the two fastened parts.
